I have also made the curtains for the studio but I have yet to photograph them. I've been working on some other things recently too so I will upload photos of these too. There has been lots going on here and I will try to keep the blog more updated!

Craft

The Great British Sewing Bee is back. Hope you all tuned into tonight's episode.

In other news...curtains are in progress and I have been making a keyboard cover and some sound proof panels for my hubby's studio. Pics to follow :)

Motivation

The title says it all really. I am suffering from a severe lack of motivation! We've been busy decorating and trying to get our leaky roof fixed so it's been difficult. As well as that I've been super busy at work and all I want to do when I come home is veg out!! Anyway I need to try and make a conscious effort to get off my behind and start doing something. ANYTHING! I need to make more curtains so I thought that would be a nice easy project to start with. Tonight I cut out the fabric and lining for the curtains and then I can start to sew. I'll post pics when done. After that I need to make a matching Roman blind which I've never done before. I am busy scouring for tutorials on how to do this so if anyone can recommend any I'd appreciate it.

Curtains are finished!

It's been a while since I last posted. Things have been kind of hectic here with work and studying for an exam on Tuesday. I did however finish my curtains!! I am really pleased with the way they turned out. I lined and hand hemmed them and now they are finally hanging up in my craft room.

Dress is complete!

I finished my dress last night. I'm really pleased with it as the fit is great and it's flattering. The pattern on my fabric is pretty bold but I am pleased with how it turned out. Since its for my mums wedding I'm not going to show any pictures just yet but I will post the pics after I wear it. Only a couple of weeks away! 

Dress started

It's been a while! I had a few days off work so I could catch up on some stuff at home after decorating. We just had lots of annoying bits and pieces to finish off.

While I was off I started my dress and I wil post some pics when I have them. I am still tracing out my pattern and cutting out my fabric at the moment so nothing much of interest to photograph at the moment.

I'm looking forward to getting on and getting it done! I 'm thinking of possibly making an underskirt to give the dress more body but I will wait and see how it looks when it is finished first and am also toying with the idea of a fascinator too but I've not totally decided on that. I'll need to be looking for some inspriation I think so if anyone knows of any good tutorials please let me know :)

Dress practise

Tonight I completed my practise dress. The fit is good and I am going to start on the real thing next in between curtains. It's so hot just now I am getting frustrated with the amount of fabric in my curtains! Plus my sister pointed out to me today I only have six weeks until the wedding so the dress is more pressing than the curtains too! I'll keep my progress updated.

Curtain update

The curtains have started!! I've measured my fabric and begun cutting it out. It took a long time for a couple of reasons...

1. It was so hot last night
2. I had so much material to wrestle around!!

Anyway I have started now and hopefully will have curtains up soon :)

Happy Monday

Well my curtains did not go a planned this weekend! In fact they did not go at all...

It's my anniversary today so I was out celebrating at the weekend as it's a work day today. We went for a lovely meal and then to the cinema to see Monsters University. It was a lovely day and that is a funny film!

Measuring up

Last night I measured the sizes I will need for my curtains and planned what I am going to do. I will post pictures of them once they are hung. Hopefully I will be able to get this finished over the weekend and get some pictures up :) Although my craft room is pretty much completed this will give it a really finished look and I am excited to try and do this!

It's a struggle to feel like doing anything because it's still really really warm here! It's difficult enough having clothes on with being covered in curtain fabric too!! However I will feel better once this is done so nothing else for it but to crack on and do it.

Hot weather!

So we are in the middle of a heatwave here! We shouldn't be complaining but we are just not used to the heat. When it's hot like this the very last thing on my mind is making curtains!! However it needs to be done for my room to look finished so I am going to make a start on it tonight. I have a lovely fabric that I am using for them.

I will try to remember to take a picture later to post.

Whats the weather like where you are?

Present for my Gran

Over the weekend I made a tea cosy for my Gran. My Aunt Mandy burned the last one...small incident involving the toaster!! Gran kept saying she could never find one big enough so Mandy and I decided that a homemade me would be best and so I made this. Gran loved it which I am really pleased about too.

So after a manic weekend of building furniture and organisation I am left with a useable room that actaully houses my sewing machine!! I have a bit more organisation to do so I get everything where I want it but that is minor stuff now.

The end result is this

Now I still wanted room to sit...like maybe a wee tv room too and some storage if we had guests so we have a wee sofa bed and wardrobe in there and the other side is my work space.

I am really happy with the results and can't wait to get started now.

One of the first things will be the curtains for this room and then move onto my dress (posted here).

Nearly done

Well we made real progress in the craft room this weekend. We will (hopefully) be done by next weekend and I can start the sewing seriously. I got some fabric this weekend so I can make curtains for the room. This will also be a first for me but I don't suppose it will be too technically difficult to do. Just more cumbersome as there is so much fabric!

Anyway pics will be uploaded soon of my creative space and then the fun begins.

Next Project

So the next project will be making a dress. My mum is getting married in September and I want to have something which is comfortable and unique. I have chosen a pattern which is Simplicity 2444.

 

 

 

 

The reason I picked this is because it looked fairly straightforward and not too fussy but dressy enough for a wedding. I have started to make a practise one from an old bed sheet I had so I can work out any fitting issues before cutting into my fabric.

 

 

I have the front all together so I now need to piece together the back and then put the two together and hopefully (fingers crossed!!) it will fit ok without too much adjustment as I think that is where I will struggle.

Craft Room Renovation

Since moving house my "Craft room" has been a bit of a bomb site. Needless to say one of the first rooms organised was the music room for hubby!!

Anyway we have now embarked on a major overhaul of the room and moved out all the junk that was hiding there in order to decorate and make it a useable craft room!

I've just got my new sewing machine and I am feeling really inspired to try and create ...I just need to wait on the room being completed!

I feel like I am at a kind of crossroads at the moment - been having a bit of a rough time and looking for some direction. I had a complete lack of motivation in a lot of areas of my life but now I am starting to turn a corner and feel like I to need to push on with it so that I don't run out of inspiration before I start.

On a side note I want to say thanks to my husband Lee who has been brilliantly supportive, especially now but always and makes me feel like I can do anything.

So I suppose the rough plan for the blog is to try and document things I make - there may well be failures along the way but that is to be expected. I am relatively new to sewing so any advice that anyone wishes to give me will be gratefully accepted :)

I don't neccessarily have a plan for what I want to make but I'll muddle along to start with and see where it takes me.
